Milestone Madness

Dear Overachiever,

This week was full of FIRST! Thursday you officially became a crawler!! The FIRST time you decided to crawl was when your daddy came home from the office, you were so excited to see him you lifted your little arms and legs together and crawled across the room!!

Enjoying a teething biscuit

Friday you continued with first with your very FIRST tooth! We had been worried about you all week because you were refusing to eat your solid foods (even your favorites, bananas and sweet potatoes), you kept shaking your head no when we tried to feed you. Mommy didn’t know it, but you were trying to tell us that that your little mouth hurt. Fortunately after your bottom front tooth poped out you were back to normal.

My favorite FIRST of the week happened on Saturday, you said “MaMa”! It is the sweetest thing I have ever heard. It melts Mama’s heart!

It amazes us how quickly you are learning new things. We are sad that you are growing up so quickly, but at the same time we can’t wait to see what you do next.

We love our little crawler, teether, and talker so much!

Love,
  MaMa and Dada

Look at those legs! Soon you'll be walking!

Every Princess Needs A Crown!

Dear Princess,
When you were 2 months old, we started noticing that you always turn your head to your right when you were lying on your back and because of this were developing a “flat spot” on the back, right side of your head.  To try to correct this, we took you to CHOA to have the expert therapist look at it.  They diagnosed you with Torticolis, which simply means that your neck muscles were developing at different rates.  It sounds worse than it actually is.  To help it we were given exercises to do with you to strengthen your neck muscles (which really only constituted mommy and daddy making funny faces and noises on your left to get you to look that way) and tried to keep you off of your right side when we laid you on your back (which was more difficult than it sounds because you tended to always roll to your right).

Well, after 4 months of exercises and a few head scans to measure the improvement to the shape of your head, the doctors recommended that it was best to use the helmet to help “fix the flat.”
.
We think you look really cute with it on, your big blue eyes pop out even more now! We hope the next 3 months pass quickly for you so that we can get back to putting bows in your hair (don’t worry, mommy got some velcro to put them on your helmet for now).

Love,

More Puffs Please!

Dear Puff Queen
This week you have found a new favorite snack…..PUFFS.  You are absolutely fascinated by them and it is so funny to watch you eat them.  At first, you would pick them up and then try frantically to position them in those little hands to get them into your mouth.  You drop about half of them between trying to get them positioned just right and them sticking to your slobbery hands, but you don’t miss a beat and just grab for more and try again.  Seeing you were having a little trouble, mommy of course had to jump in to help out.  She thought she would hand you a puff and she put one in her hand and laid it in front of you for you to more easily grab, but you had a better and more efficient idea.  Seeing the puff in her hand, you dove your mouth down to take it directly out of mommy’s hand.  It was hilarious and quite a smart move.  This week we sent puffs to school with you and the first time Miss Carissa gave them to you, she placed her hand out for you to grab one but you had seen this before and knew just what to do.  You once again dove down mouth first and took the puff directly out of her hand.  All of the teachers were laughing at your technique and Ms Carisia now calls you the "little hen".

Love,
   The People with the Puffs

You also love "drinking" from your new sippy cup. You end up soaking wet!

Since you did so well with Puffs, we let you try to feed yourself cereal. You had a lot of fun, good thing it was bath night.

Dadadada...

Dear Motor Mouth,

Drum roll.... your first word is.... DADAdadada! You love your dada so much that it is only fitting that he is what you decided to talk about first. I know this is just the beginning of many sounds and words, you love laying in your crib making new noises and blowing raspberries. Before long we will be having deep conversations about Elmo and trains and all the important things in life.  I am constantly amazed by much you change day by day. Dadada and I love you so much!

PS - Remember to use your new word when you wake up early in the morning.

Love
   Dada and MAMA

Our First Mother's Day

Nap time with Mommy on her first Mother's Day
 Dear Nugget,

Today was your mommy's first Mother's Day.  We started the day early and you and I made a trip to The Home Depot to buy mom some pretty flowers for her special day.  I think mom's favorite thing of the day was playing dress up with you and putting you in your pink "bubble" and bow for the morning church service.  After church, we took mommy to Park Tavern at Piedmont Park for a special Mother's Day brunch.  It wasn't quite as cozy and quiet as we expected, but we had a great time anyway having brunch in the park with a thousand of our closest Atlanta friends and you fit in with the noisy environment quite well.  Afterwards we went for a short walk in the park and as always you were mesmerized by all the people and watching each one of the closely to figure out what they were doing.  Daddy and mommy realized that it wouldn't be long before you were out there running around with all of the other kids in the park.  But for now, we will enjoy our last few weeks of a non-mobile little girl.  After the park, we were all tired and daddy and mommy decided to nap with you at home.  I think we didn't do too badly for her first Mother's Day plans and I know you made mommy's special day even more special.

Love,

Daddy

Yummy!

Dear Solid Food Champ,

You are doing so great eating solid foods. You devour them just as quickly as you do your milk. These days your feeding are down to 10 to 12 minutes (if you are not distracted), and when you have a bottle (7oz) it magically disappears in 5 minutes. No one is worried that you aren’t eating.  Your Dad and I have been steaming and pureeing all kinds of veggies and fruit, we love to watch your reaction each time we introduce something new. So far you’re not too picky, you LOVE sweet potatoes and hate green beans. You acted like you were chocking when we gave you green beans for the first time, you coughed and shook your head. Mommy was scared at first until she realized you did that each time I put a spoonful in your mouth. You're so dramatic, green beans really aren’t that bad!

Here is what you have tried so far:
Cereal
Sweet Potatoes
Carrots
Pears (Cough Cough… )
Green Beans (Cough Cough.. Yuck!)
Squash
Apples
Bananas
Peas
Zucchini
Parsnip

7 Months Old

Dear 7th Month Birthday Girl,

I can't believe we can't call you our 6 months old baby any more! You are growing up so fast. You are always busy and have to have a toy in each hand. You like to roll over on your tummy to scoot around when we put you down. You know exactly what you want, but can't quite get to it yet. Your getting so close to being mobile, you get up on all fours and rock back and forth. Mommy is sad that you are going to all over the place soon, life is about to get interesting for us. You still love to eat, recently we have tried squash and apples, you like both. Soon you'll be eating at the table with Mom and Dad.
Your favorite pastimes are rolling the ball with Daddy and turning pages in a book. When you get excited you make the cutest "oooh oooh" sounds and still pant like a dog when you see us across the room. We can't wait to see what the next month brings.

Love,
   MaMa and Dada
